The majority of films featured in this image are from the horror genre. It is interesting to see how designers of film posters use a similar style to convey the genre; the viewer of the poster will recognize the image and connect it instantly with the horror genre as they will most likely have viewed a similar poster before.
All of these images have something in common and that is the use of heavy shadowing and key highlighting. This is typical of a horror genre poster; we should keep all of this information in mind when creating our own poster and other ancilliary tasks so that our designs show that our film is of the horror genre. We will be using dark colours and low lighting, we may feature eyes on our poster or on the magazine cover as this is clearly a running theme with films of this genre.
The eyes look directly at the viewer of the poster which involves them in the action, they then want to know more about the story behind the image. The extreme close up is intended to only give a snippet of information about the film, this hooks the viewer. We should use a similar technique on our ancilliary tasks, this will get people talking about the film and will lead to word of mouth advertising and could potentially boost sales of the magazine as well as our film.

Why do you think they use eyes? What do you think is signified by the use of an eye on a poster from the horror genre?
