Arranging The Green Room

For our product, we realised we needed a lot more photos than we originally thought in order to get our work to the standard we desired, we needed to take extra images as the ones we had taken in the forest did not meet the conventions of images used on the cover of film magazines, (they were too dark, not clear etc.). Using the green room meant that we were able to change the lighting to create the effect we desired, this was important to us as we have discovered the images used on the cover of magazines are usually shot in bright lighting which ensures the subject of the image contrasts well with the background. Having lighting like this ensures that the image looks professional; we do not not have the equipment available in college to have many lights set up to provide key lighting for a photoshoot and therefore we felt it was necessary to use the green room at the university to achieve the correct look. Furthermore, the green room provides a totally green backdrop for the images taken which makes it very easy to edit the image in post production to remove and replace the background; we knew this would be an important feature for us as we had already decided upon the background for our cover photo and therefore having an easily editable background was a good idea.

We needed to book a slot in the green room as it is at Sunderland University and can get very busy with media degree students, these are the messages between ourselves and our media centre contact discussing a good time for us to use the facility.

Hi, I am studying Media with Helen Wilson at St.Peters sixth form and she has given me your contact details in order to hopefully book the photographic studio (green room) at your campus. If possible would you be able to see if that would be available- it would be myself and one other student using it. Our available days and times are; Tuesdays between 2.15 and 4.15 and Fridays between 11.15 and 12.15. If you could get back to me with any times it is available for us to use it that would be really helpful.

Since using the green room we came out with very good photios which we are really happy that we chose to use the facility and are now in the process of making them fit into our product in order to make it look more professional and polished!
