Moulin Rouge & Post Modernism

This is the trailer from the film Moulin Rouge, although we did not analyze these clips specifically we believe that the trailer gives a good insight to what the film is about and the sort of post modern features that it contains.

We watched the film Moulin Rouge which we were told contained many features of Post Modernism, we watched several scenes and took notes on what we believed were the prominent displays of Post Modernism. By watching a film which was full of Post Modern features we have gained a better understanding of how to apply it to our own products, we particularly liked the scenes which had the speed-up effect in them, we feel this would be easy to replicate and would work well in our production.

Features of Post Modernism in Moulin Rouge:
  • Soundtrack features existing music e.g Sound of Music - intertextuality
  • Speeding up of scenes - hyperreality
  • Fairy animation - hyperreality
  • Bright colours & artsy
  • Mixture of genres e.g Romance, Comedy, Fantasy
  • Not in chronological order
