Made in Dagenham & Feminism

As part of our research for Feminism we watched the film Made in Dagenham. By watching this film it we were able to get to grips with one of the feminist theories by seeing it in practice, we found this really helpful and were able to think about how we could apply the theories to our filming in a more effective manner. Made In Dagenham is about women fighting for equal rights and equal pay as they feel they are discriminated against because of their gender - this is an example of the Second Wave feminist theory.
This is the Made In Dagenham official trailer.
Feminism features:
  • Fight for equal pay - Second Wave
  • High angle shots make women appear inferior
  • Women appear in stereotypical roles
  • Women called unskilled workers
  • Sex is used by some women as a tool for bribery
  • Struggle for equal rights - Rita's husband feels she is priviledged having a spouse who does not beat her up
