One of the theories we have been learning about is Post Modernism, this theory is very complex but there are many ways that a film or other text can show that it is Post Modern. The description of Post Modernism can be found below in the class notes. Also found below is the difference between Modernism and Post Modernism movements, the differences are significant.
Romeo and Juliet Trailer
We really would like to apply some of the features of Post Modernism to our products as we know some of the most successful films have been heavily influenced by the Post Modernism Theory e.g Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Pulp Fiction. We will probably not incorporate many elements of Post Modernism into our filming and products as we did feel it was overwhelming to watch so many features in one film (Romeo and Juliet) so we will be using only a few features such as speeding up some of the filming to show hyperreality and incorporating existing products into our filming to include intertextuality. We feel that by using these elements of Post Modernism our trailer will be more appealing to the younger generation which is good as they are the biggest segment of our target market.
Features of Post Modernism:
- Hyperreality - Text refers to other texts moreso than a true reality.
- Non-chronological order - Filmed sequences out of logical time order, confusion.
- Intertextuality - References to other existing texts
- Mixture of Cultures - Clashing features of high + low culture
- Mixture of Genres - Conflicting features of genres e.g Romance + Horror
- Fragmentation -
